How to become a Software Engineer

Also called Software Developer, Programmer, Application Developer

What does a Software Engineer do?

Software engineers design, write and test the programs and apps people use every day. In India most enter the field after a B.Tech in computer science or a computer applications degree such as BCA or MCA.

A software engineer turns a problem into working code. On a typical day this means writing and reviewing code, fixing bugs, testing features and working with designers and product teams on what to build next.

In India software engineers work in IT services firms, product companies, start-ups, banks and government technology projects. Many begin as trainee or junior developers and learn new languages and tools on the job.
