About
Google Summer of Code is an online programme where students and open-source beginners aged 18 or above work on an open-source project with a mentor. Contributors who pass evaluations receive a stipend, which for India ranges from $750 to $3,000 depending on project size.
Contributors write proposals for projects listed by accepted mentoring organisations and, if selected, code for 12 weeks or longer. Projects are about 90, 175 or 350 hours long, and end dates can be stretched up to 22 weeks with the mentor’s agreement.
Indian college students can apply as long as they are 18 or older at registration and eligible to work in India. A contributor may send up to three proposals but only one can be accepted.
