About Department of Drawing and Painting, HNB Garhwal University

The Department of Drawing and Painting at HNB Garhwal University, Srinagar Garhwal, teaches fine art through a six-semester UG programme, a four-semester PG programme and a PhD with pre-PhD coursework.

Drawing and Painting is part of the School of Arts, Communication and Languages at Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, the central university at Srinagar in Uttarakhand. Students first take the six-semester undergraduate programme, studied as part of the BA under CBCS and now NEP syllabi, which builds skills in drawing, colour, composition and art history. The four-semester postgraduate programme follows an MA syllabus and deepens studio practice and theory. Research students complete a six-month pre-PhD course before their doctoral work. The scenic Garhwal valley offers plenty of material for landscape and folk-art studies, and graduates move into teaching, design, illustration and gallery work.
