Alagappa University is a state university in Karaikudi, Sivaganga district, recognised by the UGC as a Category-I university. Its campus departments run a long list of M.Sc. courses, from physics and chemistry to marine-linked subjects such as oceanography and fisheries science, along with M.A., M.Com., several MBA streams and an MCA. Admission
Admission through: Merit, Entrance test, Interview
Applications are accepted online only through the university admission portal, with notices usually in March or April. B.Ed. selection is on entrance test marks, MBA on entrance test, group discussion and interview, and MCA and M.Sc. Biotechnology on entrance test and interview. Most other programmes admit on qualifying-degree marks, following the Tamil Nadu reservation policy.

- Bachelor of Education: Studying in: UG; At least 50% marks in UG; bachelor's and/or master's degree in a relevant discipline
- Bachelor of Science: Studying in: Class 12; Science stream usually required; universities set subject and minimum mark rules
- Master of Arts: Studying in: UG; At least 50% marks in UG; three- or four-year bachelor's degree; subject requirements vary (e.g. DU M.A. Economics needs Mathematics in Class 12 or 4 credits of Mathematics in the degree)
- Master of Business Administration: Studying in: UG; At least 50% marks in UG; bachelor's degree of at least three years in any discipline
- Master of Commerce: Studying in: UG; At least 50% marks in UG; B.Com (Hons/Pass) or equivalent such as BBA, BMS or BBE (University of Delhi)
- Master of Computer Applications: Studying in: UG; At least 50% marks in UG; BCA, B.Sc (CS/IT) or equivalent
- Master of Science: Studying in: UG; bachelor's degree in the relevant subject; two-year M.Sc after a three-year bachelor's or one-year M.Sc after a four-year bachelor's; universities set their own marks
- Doctor of Philosophy: Studying in: PG; At least 55% marks in PG
