Sikkim University, set up by an Act of Parliament in 2007, runs its offices at 6th Mile, Tadong, Gangtok and offers four-year UG, MA, M.Sc, M.Com, MBA, MCA, LLM and PhD programmes.

Sikkim University was established in July 2007 through an Act of Parliament. Its administrative office is at Samdur, 6th Mile, Tadong in Gangtok, while a permanent campus is being developed at Yangang in South Sikkim. The university has schools of human sciences, languages and literature, life sciences, physical sciences, professional studies and social sciences. Postgraduate courses cover MA in many subjects, M.Sc in the sciences, M.Com, MBA, MCA and LLM, and most departments take PhD scholars. Four-year undergraduate programmes are offered in Chinese, Hindi, Music and Psychology. Fees are low: the 2026-27 prospectus puts the admission-time total for an MA in Hindi at Rs 5,014.

Admission

Sikkim University admits students to its four-year undergraduate and postgraduate programmes on the basis of CUET scores. Candidates apply as per the yearly admission notice, and merit lists are published on the admission page. PhD admission has its own merit lists and notices.

Typical eligibility

• Bachelor of Arts: Studying in: Class 12; any stream; universities set their own minimum marks
• Master of Arts: Studying in: UG; At least 50% marks in UG; three- or four-year bachelor's degree; subject requirements vary (e.g. DU M.A. Economics needs Mathematics in Class 12 or 4 credits of Mathematics in the degree)
• Master of Business Administration: Studying in: UG; At least 50% marks in UG; bachelor's degree of at least three years in any discipline
• Master of Commerce: Studying in: UG; At least 50% marks in UG; B.Com (Hons/Pass) or equivalent such as BBA, BMS or BBE (University of Delhi)
• Master of Computer Applications: Studying in: UG; At least 50% marks in UG; BCA, B.Sc (CS/IT) or equivalent
• Master of Laws: Studying in: UG; At least 50% marks in UG; LL.B. or equivalent law degree; final-year LL.B. students may apply
• Master of Science: Studying in: UG; bachelor's degree in the relevant subject; two-year M.Sc after a three-year bachelor's or one-year M.Sc after a four-year bachelor's; universities set their own marks
• Doctor of Philosophy: Studying in: PG; At least 55% marks in PG
