About National Institute of Technology Calicut

NIT Calicut is a central government engineering institute in Kozhikode, Kerala, ranked No. 2 in Architecture and Planning and No. 21 in Engineering in NIRF 2025.

NIT Calicut was founded in 1961 as Calicut Regional Engineering College and became an NIT in 2002. Its campus covers 285 acres and it has 15 departments, including architecture and planning and management studies. It offers B.Tech, B.Arch, M.Tech, M.Plan, M.Sc, MBA and PhD. NIRF 2025 ranked it second in Architecture and Planning and twenty-first in Engineering.

Admission

Admission through: Entrance test, Interview

B.Tech (JEE Main Paper 1) and B.Arch (JEE Main Paper 2) seats are filled through JoSAA and CSAB counselling, with DASA for overseas candidates. M.Tech and M.Plan admissions go through CCMT on GATE scores, and M.Sc through CCMN on JAM scores. The MBA uses a valid CAT score followed by an interview.

Typical eligibility

• Bachelor of Architecture: Studying in: Class 12; Stream: Science (PCM); NATA or JEE Main Paper 2 as required by the institution
• Bachelor of Technology: Studying in: Class 12; Must have studied: Physics; Must have studied: Mathematics; At least 45% marks in Class 12; one more subject from the AICTE list (e.g. Chemistry, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Biology)
• Master of Business Administration: Studying in: UG; At least 50% marks in UG; bachelor's degree of at least three years in any discipline
• Master of Planning: Studying in: UG; B.Plan, B.Arch or B.E./B.Tech (Civil or Planning); SPA Vijayawada asks 60% or CGPA 6.5 (55% or 6.0 for SC/ST)
• Master of Science: Studying in: UG; bachelor's degree in the relevant subject; two-year M.Sc after a three-year bachelor's or one-year M.Sc after a four-year bachelor's; universities set their own marks
• Master of Technology: Studying in: UG; Enrolled in: Bachelor of Technology; At least 50% marks in UG; B.E./B.Tech in a relevant discipline; GATE score preferred
• Doctor of Philosophy: Studying in: PG; At least 55% marks in PG

Scholarships and fee waivers

B.Tech students from SC, ST and PwD categories and those with family income below 1 lakh a year pay no tuition. Students with family income between 1 lakh and 5 lakh pay one-third of the tuition fee. M.Tech and M.Sc tuition is waived for SC and ST students.
