Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) in Lucknow is the state technical university of Uttar Pradesh, set up in 2000, that affiliates several hundred engineering, management, pharmacy and architecture colleges.
Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, widely called AKTU, was created by the Uttar Pradesh government in 2000 under a state act and was earlier known as Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU). It is an affiliating university: around 800 colleges across the state teach its B.Tech, B.Pharm, B.Arch, MBA, MCA and hotel management courses, and it sets their syllabus, exams and degrees. Its own campus is at Jankipuram in Lucknow, and its constituent units include the Institute of Engineering and Technology, the Faculty of Architecture and Planning and the Centre for Advanced Studies in Lucknow. The university also runs M.Tech and PhD research through its constituent units. It holds an A grade from NAAC from its first cycle.

Admission through: Entrance test, Merit, Lateral
AKTU is the affiliating technical university of Uttar Pradesh, so most students join one of its affiliated or constituent colleges rather than the university campus itself. Seats in B.Tech, B.Pharm, B.Arch, MBA, MCA and similar courses are filled through state counselling based on national or state entrance test scores such as JEE Main, NATA and CUET or the state test. Students register for counselling, fill choices of college and branch, and report to the allotted college.
