The J.K. Institute of Applied Physics and Technology at the University of Allahabad, inaugurated in 1956, teaches electronics, communication and computer science through B.Tech, M.Tech, B.Sc and M.Sc courses.
The J.K. Institute of Applied Physics and Technology is the University of Allahabad unit for electronics, communication and computer science, set on the Science Faculty campus in Prayagraj. Jawaharlal Nehru laid its foundation stone in 1949 and it was opened in 1956, and its first head was Prof. S. N. Ghosh. Postgraduate computer science teaching started in 1986, and DRDO later chose the institute as a centre to train software manpower. Today it runs a four-year B.Tech filled through the national engineering entrance, an M.Tech, and B.Sc and M.Sc courses in computer science entered through the university test. The 2023-24 sanctioned intake lists B.Tech and M.Tech seats in both CSE and ECE.

B.Tech seats are filled on the basis of the national engineering entrance rank, which the department page names as AIEEE (now JEE Main).
