It teaches B.Sc chemistry in both the physical sciences and biological sciences streams. The M.Sc offers specialisations in organic, inorganic, physical and analytical chemistry, and a two-year M.Sc in Agricultural Chemistry and Soil Science runs at the Sheila Dhar Institute of Soil Science, founded through a gift from Prof. N. R. Dhar. The UGC has supported the department under its Special Assistance Programme since 1977, and it hosts a large group of doctoral and post-doctoral scholars.
