About Department of Architecture, NIT Tiruchirappalli
The Department of Architecture at NIT Tiruchirappalli, set up in 1980, runs a 60-seat B.Arch, a 20-seat M.Arch in Energy Efficient and Sustainable Architecture, and PhD.
The Department of Architecture at NIT Tiruchirappalli started in 1980 with 15 B.Arch students, at a time when the institute was a Regional Engineering College affiliated to Madras University and later Bharathidasan University. Intake grew to 30 in 1986 and to 60 in 2015. A PhD programme in architecture began in 2003, when the college became an NIT, and an M.Arch in Energy Efficient and Sustainable Architecture with 20 seats followed in 2016. The department moved into its present building in 2010 and added an annexe in 2018. It is one of the few architecture departments within an NIT in south India.

B.Arch admission at NITs is through JEE Main (Paper 2) and JoSAA/CSAB counselling. The M.Arch in Energy Efficient and Sustainable Architecture is filled through the institute postgraduate admission notice. PhD applicants apply when NIT Tiruchirappalli notifies research admissions.
