About North-Eastern Hill University

North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) is a university set up by an Act of Parliament in 1973, with its main campus at Umshing Mawkynroh in Shillong and a second campus at Tura.

NEHU was created under the North-Eastern Hill University Act of 1973 and once served Meghalaya, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram before separate universities were set up there. Its main campus at Umshing Mawkynroh in Shillong sits on about 1,225 acres given by the Government of Meghalaya, and a Tura campus opened in 1996. Teaching is organised in schools of technology, social sciences, life sciences, physical sciences, humanities, education, human and environmental sciences, and economics and management. Programmes run from B.Arch, B.Tech and BA LLB to MA, M.Sc, M.Com, MBA, MCA, M.Tech, LLM and PhD. About 53 undergraduate colleges are affiliated to it.

Admission

Admission through: Entrance test

Most undergraduate and postgraduate seats are filled through CUET-UG and CUET-PG scores, and candidates register on the NEHU Samarth admission portal. Some programmes are filled through a separate non-CUET portal. PhD admission follows notices posted on the NEHU admission announcements page.

Typical eligibility

• Bachelor of Architecture: Studying in: Class 12; Stream: Science (PCM); NATA or JEE Main Paper 2 as required by the institution
• Bachelor of Technology: Studying in: Class 12; Must have studied: Physics; Must have studied: Mathematics; At least 45% marks in Class 12; one more subject from the AICTE list (e.g. Chemistry, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Biology)
• Integrated Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws: Studying in: Class 12; At least 45% marks in Class 12
• Master of Arts: Studying in: UG; At least 50% marks in UG; three- or four-year bachelor's degree; subject requirements vary (e.g. DU M.A. Economics needs Mathematics in Class 12 or 4 credits of Mathematics in the degree)
• Master of Business Administration: Studying in: UG; At least 50% marks in UG; bachelor's degree of at least three years in any discipline
• Master of Commerce: Studying in: UG; At least 50% marks in UG; B.Com (Hons/Pass) or equivalent such as BBA, BMS or BBE (University of Delhi)
• Master of Computer Applications: Studying in: UG; At least 50% marks in UG; BCA, B.Sc (CS/IT) or equivalent
• Master of Laws: Studying in: UG; At least 50% marks in UG; LL.B. or equivalent law degree; final-year LL.B. students may apply
• Master of Science: Studying in: UG; bachelor's degree in the relevant subject; two-year M.Sc after a three-year bachelor's or one-year M.Sc after a four-year bachelor's; universities set their own marks
• Master of Technology: Studying in: UG; Enrolled in: Bachelor of Technology; At least 50% marks in UG; B.E./B.Tech in a relevant discipline; GATE score preferred
• Doctor of Philosophy: Studying in: PG; At least 55% marks in PG
