About Sambalpur University
Sambalpur University is a state university at Jyoti Vihar, Burla, set up by an Odisha act in 1966, with about 25 PG departments and schools.
Sambalpur University was created by an act of the Odisha Legislature passed in December 1966 and began work on 1 January 1967. Its campus, Jyoti Vihar, is at Burla in Sambalpur district of western Odisha. About 25 postgraduate departments and schools teach subjects from anthropology, physics and statistics to food science, social work and performing arts. Courses include MA, M.Sc, M.Com, MBA, an M.Tech in environmental science and technology, LLM and PhD, plus integrated programmes and a distance education centre. The university holds a NAAC Grade A (third cycle) accreditation.

Admission
Admission through: Entrance test, Merit
Admission to regular PG courses on campus is through the state's common PG admission (CPET) on the SAMS Odisha portal. Self-financing and integrated programmes use the university's own e-admission portal and the SUET entrance, and PhD admission has a separate portal. The law college runs its own admission notice each year.

- Master of Arts: Studying in: UG; At least 50% marks in UG; three- or four-year bachelor's degree; subject requirements vary (e.g. DU M.A. Economics needs Mathematics in Class 12 or 4 credits of Mathematics in the degree)
- Master of Business Administration: Studying in: UG; At least 50% marks in UG; bachelor's degree of at least three years in any discipline
- Master of Commerce: Studying in: UG; At least 50% marks in UG; B.Com (Hons/Pass) or equivalent such as BBA, BMS or BBE (University of Delhi)
- Master of Laws: Studying in: UG; At least 50% marks in UG; LL.B. or equivalent law degree; final-year LL.B. students may apply
- Master of Science: Studying in: UG; bachelor's degree in the relevant subject; two-year M.Sc after a three-year bachelor's or one-year M.Sc after a four-year bachelor's; universities set their own marks
- Master of Technology: Studying in: UG; Enrolled in: Bachelor of Technology; At least 50% marks in UG; B.E./B.Tech in a relevant discipline; GATE score preferred
- Doctor of Philosophy: Studying in: PG; At least 55% marks in PG
