About Department of Mechanical Engineering, DTU
DTU’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, active since 1941, runs B.Tech courses in mechanical, production and industrial, and automobile engineering, five M.Tech tracks and PhD research.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Delhi Technological University traces its teaching back to 1941 and is one of the oldest departments on the Bawana Road campus in north-west Delhi. Its B.Tech intake has grown from 30 to 260 seats, split across Mechanical Engineering (149), Production and Industrial Engineering (37) and Automobile Engineering (74), with a further 37 seats in a four-year B.Tech for working diploma engineers. At the postgraduate level it admits about 42 students a year to M.Tech tracks in production and industrial, thermal, computer aided analysis and design, energy systems and management, and industrial engineering and management. PhD work covers thermal engineering, alternative fuels such as biodiesel, machine design, manufacturing, supply chains and solar energy. The department hosts an SAE student chapter that competes in Formula Student and Baja events.
