About National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi
NIFT New Delhi, set up in 1986 in Hauz Khas, is the first and largest campus of the National Institute of Fashion Technology under the Ministry of Textiles.
The National Institute of Fashion Technology began in New Delhi in 1986, first working from a two-room temporary space and then moving in 1994 to its own campus in Hauz Khas, near Gulmohar Park. The campus building, designed by architect B.V. Doshi, is built around a central step-well that collects rainwater. NIFT works under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, and the Delhi campus runs the widest range of programmes of any NIFT centre. These include bachelor’s design courses such as Fashion Design and Accessory Design, master’s programmes in design, fashion management and fashion technology, and doctoral research.
