About Department of Chemical Technology, University of Calcutta
The Chemical Technology department of the University of Calcutta offers B.Tech and M.Tech in ceramic, oil, petrochemical and pharmaceutical technology, plus PhDs.
The Department of Chemical Technology became a separate department in January 1982, when the old Department of Applied Chemistry (started in 1920) was split into three. It runs four B.Tech streams, each with 10 seats: Ceramic Engineering, Oil Technology, Petrochemicals and Petroleum Refinery Engineering, and Pharmaceuticals and Fine Chemical Technology. Matching M.Tech courses take 10 students each through GATE. PhD research is offered in these four areas and in Applied Chemistry. The department received UGC SAP-I support for 2018-2023, and it is based on the Rajabazar Science College campus on APC Road in Kolkata.
