The Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Patna, running since 2008, offers B.Tech in EEE and in ECE, three M.Tech streams, B.Tech-M.Tech dual degrees and PhD.
Electrical engineering has been taught at IIT Patna since the institute opened in 2008, and the department calls itself one of the oldest and largest on the Bihta campus. Undergraduates choose a four-year B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or in Electronics and Communication Engineering. Postgraduate students can take two-year M.Tech courses in communication systems and signal processing, VLSI and embedded systems, or power and control systems, and three five-year dual degrees link these M.Tech streams with the B.Tech. PhD research covers all areas of electrical engineering. The department reports more than 20 teaching and research labs, about 23 faculty and over 100 research scholars.

B.Tech seats are filled through the IIT-JEE route, as the IIT Patna admissions page states. M.Tech and PhD admissions are announced on the same admissions portal, with programme-wise eligibility and selection details on academics.iitp.ac.in. For Indian B.Tech students from the July 2023 batch, the fee page lists Rs 1,25,000 a semester after the first semester.
