The mechanical engineering department has been part of IIT Patna since 2008 and works from the Bihta campus near Patna. It runs a four-year B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, a five-year B.Tech plus M.Tech dual degree in mechatronics, and a five-year B.Tech plus MBA route with IIM Mumbai. Two-year M.Tech courses are offered in thermal and fluids engineering, advanced manufacturing technology, mechanical design and mechatronics, and doctoral scholars work in areas such as surface engineering, laser material processing, computational mechanics and robotics. B.Tech seats are filled through the IIT-JEE route, as the IIT Patna admissions page states. M.Tech and PhD admissions are announced on the same admissions portal, with programme-wise eligibility and selection details on academics.iitp.ac.in. For Indian B.Tech students from the July 2023 batch, the fee page lists Rs 1,25,000 a semester after the first semester.
