About Department of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal
The Mathematical and Computational Sciences department at NITK, formerly Mathematics, runs a B.Tech and M.Tech in Computational and Data Science and a PhD.
The Department of Mathematical and Computational Sciences started along with NITK in 1960 and was earlier called the Department of Mathematics. In 2022 it began a four-year B.Tech in Computational and Data Science. Its two-year M.Tech in Computational and Data Science replaced the older M.Tech in Computational Mathematics in 2019. The department has decided to close its MCA, with no new MCA admissions from 2025-26. Research scholars work towards a PhD in several areas of mathematics and computing. It is located on the main NITK campus at Surathkal.
