About Institute of Radio Physics and Electronics, University of Calcutta
The Institute of Radio Physics and Electronics, founded by the University of Calcutta in 1949, teaches B.Tech in ECE, M.Tech in RPE and VLSI Design, and PhD (Tech).
The Institute of Radio Physics and Electronics was formally created in 1949, building on wireless teaching at the University of Calcutta that dates back to 1925. Prof. S. K. Mitra led it until 1955, and the UGC has recognised it as a Centre of Advanced Study since 1963. Today it runs a four-year B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering, with second-year seats for B.Sc (Honours) graduates. At PG level there is an M.Tech in Radio Physics and Electronics and a self-financing M.Tech in VLSI Design, offered full-time and part-time. Research leads to a PhD (Tech).
